Info:
This is a group open to all public forum debate students. It's a place to talk about anything and everything... how much you hate the topic or how 'dumb' your judges were (we all know you deserved to win). You could also talk about the most effective strategy or where to find the best evidence. We're open to a few lame debate jokes too... And remember, winning is everything =)... just kidding, jeeze.

I watched Patric and Emma debate twice against my older brother Evan at nationals, both rounds I was surprised at the out come because they don't say much. However, what they do say, they say really well. Patric and Emma's style was really easy to follow for a lay judge, and the way they set up a case also made voting for them easier. Whether or not that makes them worthy of a national championship, I couldn't tell you. However, as far as I'm aware, all that matters in forum is convincing the judge panel.

2004--PFD was still in its infancy. Carver and Bentley could never win nats now with the skill sets they used to win in 04.

I remember watching that round on video. The only part I really remember was the 2nd speaker asking Carver during CX: "Do you have any questions for me?" (he had been grilling Carver for 2.5 minutes) to which Carver responded: "No."

I would have to dig back to my notes. First, the topic was a ridiculous one. It was "all young people in every country should be required to do one year of mandatory national service." Talk about awful.

As I watched the round, it was a slaughter. I spoke to a lot of people about it from all over, and I have yet to meet a person who agreed with the decision.

But I cannot provide specifics, it was too long ago. I judged Patrick and Emma in prelims at that tournament and I picked them up against a very weak team, so it was not like I had some sort of vendetta against them.

I think I have the right to comment about rounds. I have watched every official final round of PFD at NFLs (this year will be the first I will miss) and I have always heard "not legit, not legit" and yet the only year I disagreed (and literally could not believe the decision was even possible) was 2004 in SLC.

I agree with you William, but Mr. Kline declined to critique the round. He did not give any reason Mr. Carver should not have won. I am neither agreeing or disagreeing with the premise of his argument because there wasn't one.

It is a Public Forum group and if Mr. Kline wishes to give his opinion about a particular round or a set of files, then I think it is his right to do so.

It was a Nationals finals round and I think it is fair to critique it. If he were to say that it was the best round he has ever seen, then I highly doubt you'd call him out on it.

As for his sentiment with the Carver files, I agree that out of all the widely available files they are the worst. Finalist Files on the other hand are by far my favorite set. Keep up the good work Michelle.

Oh sorry Christian, I didn't do an update on NCFLs, I just didn't think it was necessary... thanks for reading the foreword though =). Mr. Kline I don't believe the comments you have made regarding Carver, especially that he did not deserve to win nationals, are appropriate given your standing in the NFL. You are not a student and I believe your commentary should be accompanied by the level of professionalism that accompanies your job. In addition, if you have a problem with Carver, write it on Carver's wall.

Michelle,

I read your forward: I was talking NCFLs. :)

Kline,

No, they aren't as good as FF but really they're not abhorable or short. They have at least 20 cards per side, and an update.

I would argue that Patrick Carver's win of NFLs was the only bad final round decision made at NFLs in PFD thus far. I was absolutely SHOCKED when they announced it...I have never been a fan of his since. I looked at his file and found it to be absolutely nothing I couldn't find myself...and SHORT...

hey christian, i actually am sending out an update but its not really an update because not much has changed in the war on terror in the last 5 days haha... it's a compilation of answers in block form but i'm not done but it'll be e-mailed to the purchasing address when it is. Man no one reads my forewords =). and i didn't care for carver's files when i bought them 2 years ago but a lot may have changed since then, i would appreciate if people reserved judgment on my files until they read them so i think it's only fair to do the same for him.
